H&G TOP 50 ROOMS

We are honoured to win 'Best Bathroom' in the 2018 House & Garden Top 50 Rooms Awards with our Pilley Street project. Thank you to House & Garden Australia for a fabulous luncheon and celebrations at the stunning Vaucluse house Tearooms in Sydney, where the awards presentations took place."Designed for a Melbourne family's teenage daughters, this bathroom has an out-of-the-box design. The physical limitations of the space inspired the architects to push the space out through the external wall; from the outside it presents as a timber-clad box cantilevered over the garden. Inside, the layout is masterfully stage-managed. The plinth and dramatic marble wrap give the bath a superstar status. Sun beams through the new skylight while understated tapware and a storage niche play supporting roles. The bath tray made from an old cedar window was a gift for the client from the project carpenter." Australian House & Garden."This room gives us so much more than we expected. it's an incredible collision of privacy, light & tranquility in a space that is at once completely luxurious and completely pragmatic." The interior has been structured to display and highlight loved objects, recalling memories of the family’s historic farmhouse. The exterior of the home is a skilfully executed formal composition simply and informally clad in spotted gum." Thank you to the jury and the Institute for this tremendous honour and congratulations to all winners. 2018 Boroondara Urban Design – WINNER

We are delighted to announce that our Rockingham Townhouses in Kew have won the coveted award in the category “Best medium-scale multi-dwelling residential development (up to 3 storeys)” in the 2018 Boroondara Urban Design Awards. The jury commented that:“The Rockingham Townhouses present a well-considered approach to multi-dwelling development on a large sloping corner allotment in an evolving neighbourhood. The five double-storey dwellings are stepped, separated and shaped to ensure appropriate presentation to both street frontages. The project’s attention to detail, including use of Gosford grey sandstone, large framed projecting windows and a sensitive awareness of light and shade address the neighbourhood and streetscape in a clever way and advance municipal goals for quality in place making and design.”Read more about the awards via the link to Boroondara website announcement:https://www.boroondara.vic.gov.au/about-council/news-and-media/media-centre/media-releases/design-excellence-recognised-2018-boroondara-urban-design-awards Completed 2018.Photograph- Shannon McGrath

SPACE ODYSSEY

We were excited to see our #NolanHouse featured in the 'Good Living' section of The AGE on the weekend.Rosa discusses the intricacies of wardrobe design with Karen McCartney for this interview piece. This image depicts a bedhead-come-robe designed to satisfy the contemporary expectation of a dedicated bathroom and walk-in wardrobe for the master bedroom. In the redesign of the heritage home, the original grand living room at the front of the house became redundant. Rather than dissect it we decided to leave it as a singular space and insert the custom furniture to act as bedhead and mask a robe area. To get natural light into the dressing area we extended a small bay window with a day bed to the left of the robe area which has views to the front garden.Follow link to read more: https://cyarchitects.egnyte.com/dl/q6cVpvRXHU   Photograph by Peter Clarke, styling by Swee Lim
